General overview of how the tournament will work

  • The aim of the tournament is to create the first ever District singles competition between all the clubs in the Wakefield area,  as competitive tennis in this area is heavily dominated by doubles competition
  • The aim is to get the tournament started up this year and generate interest but to make improvements next year that will mean the event will be run more like a league
  • To involve players from Walton, Wakefield, West Yorkshire and Sandal tennis clubs
  • Format will be a knockout tournament
  • Matches can be played at any of these clubs at any time in the required period i.e. last 16 match between 20th August- 10 September. Is up to the players to arrange between themselves when is good to play and at which club to play the match at, is a flexible tournament
  • Prizes for winner

  • All players must be a of member of the club they are put forward from
  • All players put forward must be over 18 it is an adult event there is a lack of adult singles competitions in tennis but there are many junior events.
  • Matches will be best of 3 normal sets
  • In regards to balls it is up to the players again if both players are happy to play with good used balls that is fine if both players want to play with new balls makes sense to split the cost of this. In the event players cannot agree e.g. one player wanting to use new balls and the other not wanting to use new balls, new balls must be used and be provided by the player who wants to use new balls and the cost to be split equally
  • Players do not need British tennis membership or an LTA rating to compete
  • The winning player must inform tournament organiser Ryan Tate via  text or call within 48 hours of the match result and I will get back to you with details of your next match
  • Any disputes arising that can’t be settled between the two players, to be referred to the tournament organiser Ryan Tate within 48 hours of playing date. A final decision will then be made
